How to Count Symbols with AI

Use Electrical Legend Count to count electrical symbols with artificial intelligence (AI), or reuse a text schedule for text-only counts. Use Single Symbol Count for one example symbol, or Text Search for text without a legend. Open an electrical drawing and prepare a legend before you start.

Extract a table into an electrical legend

Use Extract table to capture symbols and names together from a drawing’s legend. Use Add Symbol for one symbol at a time. Open the page that contains the legend table before you start.

Open Legend Manager.
Select your electrical legend’s tab.
Open Add Entry.
Select Extract table.
Draw a rectangle around the legend table on the page.
When extraction completes, select Save & Review.
Review the new entries in Legend Manager.

Edit legend entries

Open Legend Manager.
Select the legend’s tab.
Double-click the cell you want to change.
Edit the text.
Click outside the cell to save the change.

If you want to cancel the edit, press Escape. In electrical legends, long text wraps within the cell as you edit it. The cell expands to show all the text.

Reuse a text schedule

Open Legend Manager.
Right-click the text schedule’s tab.
If the menu offers Convert to Electrical Legend, select it.

For text-only counts, run the converted legend alone before you change pages or reload Bobyard. Some converted legends use symbols and text after you change pages or reload Bobyard. Standard electrical legends use symbols and text.

If Electrical is your only available trade in AI Workbench, you cannot create a new Text Schedule. Use Electrical for a new legend. Existing text schedules remain available for conversion when the menu offers it.

Count with the legend

Open AI Workbench.
Select Electrical.
Select Electrical Legend Count.
Select the legend you want to count.
Select Next.
Select the region to count.
If the wizard asks about panel and circuit association, select Yes or No.
Review the counts when the run completes.

For text-only counts, select only converted text schedules. You can also select rows in Legend Manager and select Run Legend Count to count those rows.

Start another count from Legend Manager

Open Legend Manager.
Select the legend rows you want to count.
Select Run Legend Count.
If Review not Completed! appears, select Yes, discard to open the new count.
Select the region to count.

Yes, discard removes the current detected measurements. The new count uses the legend and rows you selected in Legend Manager. If you want to keep the current run or review, select Cancel in the warning. Save the current results to takeoff before you start another count.

You now have counts to review. Next, organize and edit electrical measurements.
